HEY BO DIDDLEY!

The TAMI Show, 1966. Bo Diddley and the Bo-ettes show the kids how it's done!
Bo Diddley died today at the age of 79. He was an unstopable force. He forged the beat and beat the shit out of his unique square guitars!
The original Bo Diddley Beat never stopped, it goes on and on!

Microdot,

It is a sad day. I suspect making a Bo Diddley guitar copy is in order. I need to get a copy of Bo's album titled "Where It All Began". There are some fantastic songs on that LP that I recall. Look At Grandma, Bad Trip, Hey Jerome, and the infamous, "Take It All Off.

We endure another loss of one bad dude.

Mr.Pee,I had a very good friend from Toledo who moved to New Mexico and Bo Diddley was the Sherriff of the town she lived in. Her boyfriend, Gordon was the rythmn guitarist in his band at that time...early 90's. He was living with 2 ex wifes, his present wife and 18 children on a compound of about 15 acres. He was the law!
When Barb and Gordon visited me in NYC, they stayed in Bo's room in his favorite hotel, The Madison off of Washington Square in the Village. I have a few autographed pics, but I never met him.
In a bizarre aside, Gordon, the guitarist...a mellow hippyish dude in his early 40's at the time mysteriously and tragically disappeared in the mountains on a fishing trip. His car was found, but never a trace of Gordon...

Microdot,

I figured you would have an interesting thought or experience on this subject. I read that Ellas McDaniel actually has a beat named after him. The bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp bomp bomp. We've heard this countless times. A true pioneer of rock, blues, and amusing lyrics that may not have been "appropriate " at the time.

I have heard the older standards, and I am now aware of some of the rip off artists cashing in on Bo's coolness. I am not mentioning any names George Thorogood.

However, I am most familiar with "Where it all Began". I remember listening to that disc when I was 12. Well, I just stumbled across it and cranked it. Amazing! Coming at you. A must have. And as always, way to provoke thought!

What Diddley did was so primal, he provided a skeleton, a backbone...
There have been hundreds of songs written with the Bo Diddley beat.
In the TAMI Movie from which the video clip comes, there is an appearance of the Rolling Stones and they perform Mona, which is the Bo Diddley Beat...and a Bo Diddley song...
I just saw a young British singer, Jamie Riddell who fucking channels Al Green...
He does it so good and his voice is stellar...strange to see this energy coming from a nerdy looking little white guy with glasses.
He really does the Al Green sound from the 60's, but with his own songs. The guy has an experimental edge with a lot of humor as well.

I have a copy of Live Peace In Toronto...the movie with John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band...
there is a pretty good clip of Bo Diddley on stage circa 1971.
