Sunshine

After 3 days of rain, storms and chilly weather, I woke up to sunshine and the unexpected surprise of seeing this cactus in full flower!

I have never seen cacti flowers quite so large as these. Do you know if the flowers still function as seed-propagation agents? Is there a sweet scent to them?

I generally don't care much for the cactus family beyond their exotic displays of flowering. In my former non-human life I must have been seriously injured by a cactus.

M,

The prickly pears that are rife on my property have yet to flower. The spiderworts are blooming in the morning.

Great cactus. We've had real summertime weather lately. It's supposed to cool off tomorrow. After the coldest wettest winter, we've been thrust into a prematurely hot summer. It's the global warming.
