Miserlou

Yeah, the Pulp Fiction song, but here it is from 1963 in it's original greasy glory performed by Dick Dale and The Deltones. Dick practically invented the genre of Surf Guitar. He was one of the brave new rock musicians who realized the power and possiblities of distorted amplified sound.
I needed to hear something like this for my summer heat wave sound track. We are having a real drought with 90 plus temperatures everyday. I have been watering for hours...
I am going to have my sister who lives in California and her husband as guests for a few days. I don't think I will be able to post very much...
These guys are real Orange County, Yorba Linda Republicans!
If they are nice, perhaps I won't steal their car keys and throw them down the well.

Epic slab of vinyl this was. Also, RIP Bob Bogle of the Ventures. Nobody had nothing on his compositions, like "The 2,000 Pound Bee". Dude, the title alone is worthy expostulations of glee.

Hello Microdot,
I couldn’t help but notice that Dick Dale’s guitar was strung upside down with the low “E” string on the bottom and the high “E” string on the top. I use to play in a band with a guy who did the same thing. He was the youngest of 5 brothers and one of the older brothers had a right handed acoustic guitar. My friend was left handed, the only one in his family. He started to teach himself on his brother’s guitar and he just turned the guitar upside down so he could play it left handed. As you may have guessed by now, he was our lead guitarist and is still playing today in a band called, “Mid-Life Crisis.”

Man, that video was like going back in a time tunnel. I especially loved the twisting blonde in the Marilyn Monroe dress and hairdo.

You know, Dick Dale is still playing.
I saw him plenty of times in clubs in New York and there are a lot of very recent videos of Dick playing great guitar. He is a rep for Fender.
Makes sense, he's been playing Strats since they started to make them.

I am looking for some reallive videos of Link Wray from the 60's.
There are some versions of him from the 70's and 80's playing live shows that are too much.
Rumble was probably the first "Heavy Metal" instrumental ever and that's from 1956 or 57!
He was really cool!

Oh man. Don't tell me they are Christian fundies too! I bet they are practically inconsolable over Sarah "i can see Russia from my house" Palin resigning and likly giving up poltics.

Do yourself a favor...DO NOT disgard their keys... you'll just be prolonging the agony.

Monday...afternoon, they left...
Hump, surprisingly enough, they aren't very religious at all. My Bro in Law is a true agnostic, my sister is a catholic who never goes to church.
The strange thing, I really like the guy and we share the same birthdate, but when it comes to politics, it is a true enigma of the soul.
He got here and I opened the computer and the news about Palin had just broken. All he couldsay was that she was being murdered by the press and that she would make a great senator, not like that "carpet bagger' Hillary.
Aside from a few rants about proposition 13 being a good thing, the subject of politics left hism strngely silent and depressed.

I like "nitro" by Dick Dale!

There's a great video of Dale playing Nitro on YouTube. It is very recent.

The guy looks great and is playing great, he must be around 70, but he's got that tanned professional surf dog look down natural.
