Crack In The Universe

Wayne Kramer, 1996 live...
Mojo Magazine rated him as the 66th greatest rock guitarist of all time, but
Mr. Kramer has always been an inspiration to me and an old buddy since the
Mid 1960's....

Thanks! I haven't seen him since that fateful night after the MC5 concert at Central Michigan University. We were smoking dope, tripping, drinking beer, etc in the college radio station when the cops came in. Wayne and Rob were yelling, "come on pig, bust me!"

This caused the cop leading the raid to go into cardiac arrest and the bust ended with them taking him out to the ambulance.

He lived and so did we.

Great story, Graham! During the period the 5 were active I saw them many many times in Detroit and after they released Kick Out The Jams, it became a ritual that when ever they played, the police in all the burbs around Detroit would be ready to shut the show down if they delivered the uncensored opening line! I lived next to the Trans Love House on the Lodge Xway and klnew them in the 60's. Many years later, I saw Wayne about the time this video was made in Hoboken. He was simply amazing. I hung around and sort of reconnected after the show and then saw him everytime he played in the NYC area. He has created a lot of brilliant music since he sort of recreated himself...He's still playing, with Tom Morello and a lot of other younger bands. There is a Kramer Strat Model! Check out his catalog...I was looking for a version of his performance piece, Dead Movie Stars to post...absolutely brilliant spoken word....really scary genius!
