Yes I am with Dog Gone on this one. Shirley Bassey's version of the movie's theme song "Goldfinger” is the one I will consider the best due to the memories attached to it. She also went onto do “Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Moonraker (1979) and is the only artist to record more than one Bond theme song.
I think Goldfinger was the first movie I went to see by myself and neighbor friends without my parents. I was finally grown up at the age of 11 to see this movie by myself.
I LOVED the Aston Martin DB5 car, Oddjob was COOL (in a bad way), of course the totally nude or naked woman who was the unfortunate victim of skin suffocation by gold paint as retaliation for her betrayal, (really loved that part except for the fact she was dead. Got to see side boob and lady heinie butt cheeks!), and I was old enough to understand the "Pussy Galore's Flying Circus" lesbian leaning, five person, all-female aerial troupe with Piper Cub airplanes led by Pussy Galore which flew into Friendship Airport (now Baltimore Washington International) WHICH I LIVED RIGHT IN THE LANDING FLIGHT PATH of Friendship Airport at that time!! How cool was that…..an international movie showing footage from right out my front door just a couple of miles away!!!
In 1964 I did not understand how some of that got past the “Movie Censure Board” and into the movie to be shown across the country. Yes that United Kingdom film that cost $3 million to film but brought in $124.9 million in Box office receipts not to mention all of the licensing’s and “Spy Movies and TV Shows” spin-offs for another 6 to 8 years.
Engineer, your James Bond teen age fantasy seems to mirror mine...when Goldfinger came out I was so intent on seeing it...I was a dumb little kid and I dressed as "adult" as I could...wearing a hat to further obscure my face...It was for mature audiences and I was pretending to be 18.... I can't find it on YouTube, but the great Peter Stampfel did it with his band The Bottlecaps back in the 80's as a kind of incoherent bluegrass/country version that was so good...I know there is a YouTube version of Stampfel singing Goldfinger at the Ukelele Fest at Union Square in NYC a few yeas ago...he is almost incoherent, he is so funny...just an old crazy coot with a ukelele on a chair caterwallin away!
Wow, Mr Politeness! The Stankfinger really stank...it was great high quality prime sludge. You know what I like! That was the Stampfel video I referred to and an extra bonus for me when I saw it this time I recognized my old friend Susan Durphy in the group fo horrified onlookers! I worked on either side of Union Square for 20 years...the last gainful employment I had in NYC was a block away in West 17th Street between 5ht and 6th Ave...I worked there for around 8 years, That's the site of one of the best urban farmer markets in America!
